IRQHack64 / EasySD Cartridge / EasySD firmware
« Last post by I.R.on on February 05, 2022, 11:29:31 PM »
Due to pandemic and other life related stuff I halted development of EasySD firmware... Good news, I'll be returning and at least I'll release the already working stuff which I have already demoed in Raat#06 Party,

see the video
=540

features depicted here : cartridge api (everything tied together by way of using cartridge's api), wav playing, video playing, general file streaming and file i/o

It's in Turkish, it may sound gibberish but watch the screen, the loaded program on the easy sd firmware in the video consumes (sound (uses digimax), pictures, video) about 7-8mb of data from the sd card with just a single load. (Notebook seen on that video is just tied to the serial port of the cartridge to print debug messages to, no data transfer takes place from that pc to the c64)

When I stopped development I was working on transferring of a TAP image to tape & transferring of a D64 image to an actual drive... Both work rudimentarily but needs more polishing to release...

So I'll release the features periodically starting with the basic plugin stuff and update the github source to the latest in the mean time...

EasySD firmware is just a bonus for the IRQHack64 firmware since the hardware design is nearly untouched, it's created to give more to the owners of IRQHack64 cartridge unleashing the potential of the arduino pro mini on the board...

Still not standard C64 i/o stuff but the main difference between the IRQHack64 firmware and the EasySD firmware is : in the latter arduino pro mini almost act as a slave servicing the programs on the c64, on the former menu program was highly dependent on arduino pro mini about what it will do with the storage on the sd card and hence it was limited. Hardware wise it's just the used expansion port bit (/irq on the former, /io2 on the latter) that differs between the two firmwares. /io2 being much more easy and quick to handle to invoke an interrupt on the atmega328.

So expect the initial firmware release along with sample files in the near future, still this is not a promise but a wish as I'm currently unemployed and I don't know what kind of a life lies ahead of me ;)

Best regards,

Nejat (I.R.on)

Tapecart SD / Re: Setting up the Tapecart SD
« Last post by Remzi on January 19, 2022, 05:10:29 PM »
Upgrading the firmware and the browser:

Developer Kim Jorgensen released a new update few days ago.

  Tapecart SD v1.4

    Support P00 files
    Treat extensionless files as PRG
    Convert filenames to PETSCII
    Add TCRT write support

https://github.com/KimJorgensen/tapecart/releases/tag/v1.4

If you'd like to go ahead and do this upgrade, you will need a USB to TTL serial adaptor.Search ebay for FT232RL

Make the connections as shown in the photo below, push gently so it makes a good connection.

You can use the software called Xloader to upload hex file to the Arduino.
Download Xloader

Use the settings

Duemilanove/Nano(Atmega328)
Baud rate: 57600
You can find the COM port number from Device manager/Ports Com-LPT

Other firmwares supporting the TAP file format:

https://github.com/kasbert/tapecart/releases/tag/1.3-kasbert
https://github.com/rainisto/tapecart/releases/tag/v1.4-TAP

XUM1541 / XUM1541 Setting up guide
« Last post by Remzi on November 30, 2021, 09:46:56 PM »
I followed the setting up instructions at the following page and it worked at the first try.

http://www.anfarol.it/XUM1541/XUM1541_ENG.html

First of all, download the following PDF file and open it on another device (phone, tablet etc.)

http://www.anfarol.it/XUM1541/XUM1541_Setup_rev%201_1.pdf

Download the setup file and unzip it to your desktop.Move OpenCBM folder to Drive C:\ at root level.

http://www.anfarol.it/XUM1541/XUM1541_setup_1v2.zip

XUM1541 is developed by hobbyist. That is the reason windows drivers are not signed.
In order to install the drivers, you will need to disable driver signature enforcement.

Run the .BAT file called Signature_Off.Also open the PDF file/setup guide on the other device so you can follow the instructions.

After Windows restarted,go to
1.Troubleshoot
2.Advanced options
3.Start up settings,click restart
4.After the restart press 7 to disable it.

Go to OpenCBM folder, right click on the install.bat and run as administrator.

At this point follow the instruction on the SETUP PDF.

Well now I'm confused as I thought all versions I had worked in Vice.  :o

Anywho here is the one I think I tried previously that I couldn't get working.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/3op36ni11dubu72/The%20Sacred%20Armour%20Of%20Antiriad%20-%20Copy.tap?dl=0

It's one of the two.

I recorded this TAP to a tape and it loaded on the real hardware fine.I'm not sure what's wrong on your side.
It might be your PC somehow limiting the output or your datasette is well used and underperforming.
You can try pushing it to the limits.
1.Max out the USB speaker volume.
2.Go to Audiotap advanced options and set the output frequency to 96000Hz.

Try recording it again to tape.

ok here is one of the Antiriad versions that did not work. In total I think I tried 3.
I think they all had the extreme 'fuzz' but I'm not certain as I went through a lot of attempts etc.

(Edit: I did this quickly last night and think I gave you the wrong version for not working...I think this is the longer tape length which I didn't try due to my original being smaller. Apologies! I'll have a proper look at the weekend.)

And this is the version that worked first time and was confirmed working for Chriz.

If you need me to do tests of any sort I'm more than happy to but I'm a tad busy recently.

As I (keep  :-[ ) saying I don't think it's an issue with the cable personally but individual PC's and specific tape(s).

That's fine mate. Please do post the links for the working and non working TAP files.
It does sound like some sort of tape copy protection.

I'll upload the files either tonight or tomorrow evening  :)
Already gave Chriz a link to the working one as per his response.
